A few insights to your hair...

Thursday, April 12, 2007, 07:24 PM EST [Hair Care Questions...?]

    1)  What is the rate of hair growth?

Hair grows an average of about 1/2 inch a month.  Hair, also, tends to grow faster in warmer climates and in children.

    2)  What's the story on grey hair?

Hair appears grey.  It is actually the mixture of your natural hair with white hair that makes it appear grey.  In most cases, the older we get, the more cuticle (the outer part and toughest part of the hair) and less cortex (the innter part where melanin resides and gives us our hair color) we produce.  This is why grey hair tends to be "grey" and more wirery.

    3)  Should we wash our hair daily?

It is not necessary to wash daily unless your hair needs it.  Washing too much can make the hair dry.  It's best to brush daily to distribute the natural oils to the rest of the hair shaft.

    4)  Sulfate-FREE products - what are they for?

Sulfates are found in most shampoos out there.  They're a common surfactant (cleanser).  Sulfates tend to irritate the scalp and cause the scalp to absorb other products or irritants.  Sulfate free products will not only reduce this irritation but help hair to become more smooth and manageable.  The only problem with sulfate-free shampoos is that they don't lather up well.

If there is anything else that you may have a question about, please don't hesitate to post.
